Employment Contracts that Value Emotional Labour

What if employment or contractor contracts were focussed on enabling people to care deeply about what they do? Because the traditional contract seems more and more out of sync with what we know is valuable in many so many roles, namely craftsmanship, empathy and holistic responsibility-taking. Finding ways to re-cast contracts around this across the economy, putting more subtle factors front and centre rather than reductive KPIs, could revolutionise HR as a profession ‘from the contract up’.

Example

Buffer (USA)

Buffer is a software application for the web and mobile, designed to manage accounts in social networks. Around 2014, a company explored the use of employee pledges to all team members at Buffer. Alongside the employment agreement, the pledge shows trust and culture of caring within the interest of a particular area of the company’s ethics.
